Here Bob shows us how to use the screen layer blending mode in Photoshop to improve detail and levels. He also demonstrates how to create a simple gradient layer to improve the sky with the soft light layer blending mode. The Miz’s photoshop video tutorials are always a great resource to all photographers, graphic designers, and Photoshop users alike. This is a nice brief tutorial – I’m going to try and remember these simple pointers the next time I’m editing a landscape photo with a blue sky.

Did you ever wonder how to make realistic water reflections? Sure, there are filters that will do this for you. Flaming Pear makes the flood filter which is another way to achieve this. Filter Forge is another. Here Bob illustrates how to create this look from scratch in Photoshop with an ultra realistic water ripples effect. Best of all, it costs you nothing but your time (only about 5-10 minutes). Another Photoshop video tutorial by Robert Mizerek. This is a good one for this time of year. Here Bob illustrates how to use an adjustment layer to turn a green tree into a “fall” looking tree with bright autumn foliage. Right now in New England the trees have all peaked, and the leaves are falling. If you have shots of trees or landscapes from the summer, you can still make them look bright and amazing. The Miz’s photoshop video tutorials are always a great resource to all photographers, graphic designers, and Photoshop users alike.

On a very sad note, Robert Mizerek (Bob was also known online as “The Miz” or “rjmiz”) has passed away on September 29th, 2008 during his battle with cancer. He was 57 years old.
Bob was a close friend of ours, and contributed much to the microstock community. He served in the United States Air Force and was a 1971 graduate of the University of Farmingdale with a degree in graphic arts and advertising. He also was a member of N.A.P.P. and an accomplished photographer.
With his great sense of humor, he made us laugh. With his tell it like it is approach to life, he made us think. Through his lifetime knowledge of Photoshop, he helped us learn and grow. He will be dearly missed by many of us.
Bob’s public obituary can be found here: http://www.legacy.com/RecordOnline/Obituaries.asp?Page=LifeStory&PersonID=118368265
I used to talk to Bob on a daily basis over instant messager, and once or twice on the phone. He had a good heart, and loved helping others. He has taught people so much about Photoshop – all for free. When he told me he had cancer, I was shocked – but it made sense. Bob was a very heavy smoker. I didn’t expect for him to pass away just a month after finding out that he had cancer.
I recently learned from Bob’s sister that he was actually colorblind. Could have fooled ALL of us, Bobby boy. To see more of Bob’s amazing Photoshop creations, check out his Dreamstime portfolio here: http://www.dreamstime.com/Rjmiz_info
You will be missed. Let’s keep all of Bob’s family in our prayers.
